There is a rumour of a deputation going to inter-
view the Minister re the road from here into
Kanimbla Valley. A native of that part told me
the other day that the proposed road in question
meets the approbation of the residents out that
way, and that it can be made thoroughly prac-
ticable for about £1000 from start to finish. He
says, “they may talk as they like, but there is no
other route for a road to be made with such an easy
grade and at such a low cost as the Blackheath
Coal Mines road to Cullenbenbong.” There now,
the cat is out of the big. Who’s going to gain say
it.

The Orphan Rock is situated to the
immediate right of the Katoomba Falls, and from
it a view of this cascade may be obtained. Coal
Mine Gully (Blackheath) and Coal Mine Valley
(Katoomba) are very beautiful spots, and receive
due admiration from visitors to those places.

To SPECULATORS, CAPITALISTS, and Others.
1383 ACRES of LAND, being the estate of the BLACK-
HEATH COAL COMPANY, Limited. It will be sub-
mitted in ONE LOT. This ESTATE comprises some of
the Choicest Residence Sites on this popular part of the
Blue Mountains, and being intact, offers exceptional in-
ducements to speculators and inventors. The Western
alopes present grand outlooks into the Kanimbla Valley ,
whilst on the long stretch of sheltered Eastern Slopes are
many places suitable for the growth of English fruits. The
Estate is situate about 600 yards from Blackheath railway
station, to which there is a road laid out through interven-
ing allotments. The “Mermaids’ Cave” and the ” Coal
Mine-road,” so well known to tourists, are on this pro-
perty. The latter will no doubt in the future become one
of the principal loads into the Kanimbla Valley, and pos-
sibly a short cut to the Jenolan Caves. Coal seams underlie
the Estate, and crop out in the banks of Pulpit Hill and
Blackheath creeks. The seam corresponding to the Lith-
gow seam was opened up on the borders of the estate, and
showed a thickness of about 4ft 9in of good coal. As a
coal property the property is worthy of attention, and with
a trainage of only 71 miles, should monopolise the Sydney
and suburban market for Mountain coal.

Site inspection of possible mine site on Megalong Road.

Large flat area on Western side of the road. Because of the flat produced for the mine loading site, this has been used for stockpiling road base materials for many years. It is covered in road debris, so I couldn’t find any coal remnants.

There is an obvious road leading off 50 meters to the North at the end of which is the blown down adit heading into the hill to the West.

The adit is directly behind the large green rock.

The access road to the adit which is over my right shoulder.
