On Wednesday, 27 November, 2025, some new additions were added to the furniture display in Tarella, the Blue Mountains Historical Society cottage museum.
Tarella is now the proud owner of an upright piano characteristic of the era of the cottage.
The piano also has a separate interesting history.
It was originally gifted to the Society some years ago. An early owner of the piano was the mother-in-law of Jack Brabham, the famous Australian Formula 1 racing car driver. The piano was then passed to a new owner who kindly gave it to the Society.
In addition, a new early school desk has been donated and added to our collection in the upstairs section of the collection.
Both of these additions signifcantly enhance the presentation of late 19th and early 20th century furniture on exhibition in Tarella.
We are very grateful to our kind donors for both pieces of furniture.
Thank you, too, to the Blitz Removal Company for the challenging task of transporting the piano and the desk and positioning them in Tarella.
