Image manipulation software

Any of our members who are creating web pages will at some stage need to work on images.
Photoshop is the most widely known image manipulation software but it comes at a cost.
There are a few free image editors….
I have used GIMP (https://www.gimp.org/). It is pretty good and is a serious competitor to Photoshop. I would recommend it to anyone wanting to do serious stuff without the price tag of Photoshop.

It would be good to get some info and recommendations for a simple and free program to do basic work.
Irfanview (https://www.irfanview.com/) looks interesting. Anyone able to provide a review?

Anyone using other software which is good?
