Public Meeting and Talk – Saturday 1 October 2022

On Saturday 1 October 2022, the Blue Mountains Historical Society will hold its next public meeting and talk commencing at 10.30am at the History Research Rooms at 99 Blaxland Road, Wentworth Falls.

 

Dr Terry Kass, Historian & Heritage Consultant, will discuss ‘Surveyors and Place Naming in the 19th century’

 

Place names are significant markers for way finding across the globe. They also reference past events, significant people and significant memories. Who allocates place names? The talk will analyse the pivotal role of surveyors in place naming in the 19th century.

 

TERRY KASS is a professional consulting historian with four decades of practice. He has published histories of surveying, Parramatta, Grafton and Granville and guides to Crown Plans and Crown Land records. His particular interests include local and regional history notably land and property, social history and the history of New South Wales during the First and Second World Wars.

 

Tea and coffee are available for $5 from 10am. Entry to the talk is free to members, $5.00 for non-members.
