Public Meeting and Talk – Saturday 3 September  2022

On Saturday 3 September 2022, the Blue Mountains Historical Society will hold its next public meeting and talk commencing at 10.30am at the History Research Rooms at 99 Blaxland Road, Wentworth Falls.

Harry Dillon, in his talk, ‘Remembering Macquarie 2010-22’, will review his 2010 book ‘Macquarie: From Colony to Country’, published by Random House to mark the 200th anniversary of Lachlan Macquarie’s arrival as Governor of New South Wales.

The talk will also address public recognition and coverage of Macquarie’s controversial governorship during the past 12 years.

Regarded by many as the ‘Father of Australia’, Macquarie arrived back home in western Scotland in early September 1822, 200 years ago this month, by which time he was ill and out of favour with British authorities.

A Blue Mountains resident for three decades, Harry Dillon worked as a journalist, editor and news producer for more than 20 years, including 10 years with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. He has an honours degree in history and, until several years ago, was a full-time university lecturer. He is now happily engaged in running a small start-up business at Katoomba.

Tea and coffee are available for $5 from 10am. Entry to the talk is free to members, $5.00 for non-members.
