Public Meeting and Talk “Collits’ Inn: Uncovering the Past”

5 February 2022 @ 10:30 am - 12:00 pm

Blue Mountains Historical Society

Public Meeting and Talk

On Saturday 5 February 2022, the Blue Mountains Historical Society will hold its next public meeting and talk commencing at 10.30am at the History Research Rooms at 99 Blaxland Road, Wentworth Falls.

Our speaker, Christine Stewart, will share with her audience the adventure that she and her husband began in 1998 when they took on the project of restoring the derelict but iconic Collits’ Inn

Christine explains that she had an Arts degree, so was used to research and writing for the Conservation Management Plan. She had training in colour and design, so she enjoyed working on the interiors. With courses in gardening, she enjoyed re-establishing the garden.

Working with architects and builders was also an enjoyable experience.

Collits’ Inn is unique in Australian history. It was built in 1823 by an ex-convict to welcome travellers crossing the Blue Mountains on Cox’s Road. It stands at the foot of Mt York.

Christine’s experiences in restoring the inn, and the discoveries that were made during that restoration, are explored in her book, “Collits’ Inn: Uncovering the Past.”

Come along on Saturday and learn all about the restoration and discoveries, including two ancient English customs used by the convict builders.
