The following quality books have been donated to the Society. Because at least one copy of each of these books is already held in the library, they are being offered for sale in the first instance to members. All proceeds of sale will be used to enhance the Library collection.

Maclehose, James Picture of Sydney and Strangers' Guide to New South Wales for 1839 (first edition, published 1977). Produced as an immigrant's guide, Maclehose hoped this volume would assist with the development of 'respectable emigration'. He included useful advice on coping with the voyage out, what to do upon arrival and what was needed to become established in agriculture, commerce or skilled trade. Aird, W.V. The Water Supply, Sewerage and Drainage of Sydney (first edition, published 1961). This is sub-titled "an account of the development and history of the water supply, sewerage and drainage systems of Sydney and the near south coast from their beginnings with the first settlement to 1960". Liddell, David Blue Mountains Wilderness (published 1987). This book presents a superb selection of colour photographs of the Blue Mountains. Being offered for sale second hand on the internet $25. Price to members: $20.00

O'Donoghue, Frances The Bishop of Botany Bay - the life of John Bede Polding, Australia's First Catholic Archbishop (first edition, published 1982). A childhood nickname and dream of being the 'Bishop of Botany Bay' became a reality when Polding arrived in Australia in 1835 as the first Catholic bishop. Polding is credited with laying the foundations of Catholic education in Australia. He spoke out about injustices in society and gave a voice to those who had no voice: the poor, the convicts, the Aborigines and women. Being offered for sale second hand on the internet $20.
